After citing Dick Durbin's comments about a 13 year old girl being killed by her father who had impregnated her when he discovered she scheduled an abortion, this author on Dkos nails the issue (no pun intended). Namely, the Republican's goal when it comes to sex is to increase the consequences of having sex, even if those consequences are death.  This is a party that opposes an HPV vaccine and has even stated they'd be opposed to an HIV vaccine.

I keep trying to explain this point in various contexts: Dems are wrong to decry GOP incompetence or talk about the unintended consequences of their policies.  The consequences are perfectly intended; this is what Republicans stand for and to borrow from Dear Leader "Your either for us or agianst us." I'm sick of the Moderate Conservatives telling me that they don't agree with the Religous Right, but they just want "fiscal responsibility" and "lower taxes."  This is the real GOP, and any "Moderate" person should be ashamed to take part. Oh, and if you still aren't convinced this is a bad law, read this -- it's powerful to say the least.

The South Dakota abortion ban bill makes no exception for incest, rape, or the health of a mother unless the life of the mother is clearly at risk.  So what does State Sen. Bill Napoli (Republican) think is an acceptable exception?

BILL NAPOLI: A real-life description to me would be a rape victim, brutally raped, savaged. The girl was a virgin. She was religious. She planned on saving her virginity until she was married. She was brutalized and raped, sodomized as bad as you can possibly make it, and is impregnated. I mean, that girl could be so messed up, physically and psychologically, that carrying that child could very well threaten her life.

Tough luck for all you sluts that were not virgins or planning to save yourself.  If, God forbid, you do get raped in SD, hope soddomy is included.  Uugh, that was a painful sentence to write, but this is the reality of what is being talked about.  If only Roberts or Alito had been as honest with us during their confirmation hearings.

A new twist on the old joke of having to take your mom (or any relative) to the prom: The father-daughter "Purity Ball."  Chris at SaveROE.com goes in search of those behind the SD Abortion ban.  As always, just follow the money.  The irony in all this is that science (ooh, science is from the devil) shows that if groups like this have their way, we are likely to end up with more pregnant teens and STD's because abstinence pledgers are more likely to engage in risky behavior; i.e. unprotected sex.
