Too Soon

I'm in the "Too soon" crowd when it comes to movies like United 93 and World Trade Center. I'm not quite ready to turn a national nightmare into a money making melodrama, and I can't stand Nicholas Cage. Sure, you can make an emotional propaganda piece like Remember Pearl Harbor made only a year after (1942), but you have save the Hollywood epic stuff for much later...say, 29 years (Tora! Tora! Tora!). Here's to 9-11 insensitivity.

What's Next? "Osama's Day Off," "National Lampoons Jihadi Vacation?"

Bin Laden Determined to Strike Inside Reality TV

Submitted by wojo on Mon, 2006-03-13 20:38.

More evidence that modern fame has no relation to talent, but relation to your...relations!  Don't worry, Bin Laden's niece will "bridge the gap" between the decadent West and the Islamic world.  Our cross-cultural Ambassador will do it the old fashioned way, by getting half naked on TV--begging the question, "Would a bin Laden by any other name smell as sweet?"

Yeah, smart move to drop that last name..

Based in New York, Dufour has been promoting herself as a musician and last December appeared in a sultry GQ photo spread, reclining on satin sheets wrapped in feathers and posing in a bubble bath wearing nothing but a necklace.

"Her story will bridge the gap that people feel exists between the cultures she has lived in," ReganMedia President Judith Regan said.

"She is also a young woman who falls in love, has her heart broken, worries about her looks, doesn't always listen to her mother, and hasn't spoken to her father in years," Regan said.

We Are All Bin Ladens?

Submitted by wojo on Sat, 2006-01-21 00:45.

According to the Radical Right, if you oppose the War you support Bin Laden. I guess that makes about "58%":http://mediamatters.org/rd?http://www.cbsnews.com/htdocs/CBSNews_polls/JANA-TAP.pdf of us terrorists.

"The Lopez Factor":http://thelopezfactor.blogspot.com nails it:

"Thus Spoke All the Bin Ladens":http://thelopezfactor.blogspot.com/2006/01/thus-spoke-all-bin-ladens.html

bq. That dissent is now shared not just by such favorite conservative targets as Moore and Dean, but, now, by a plurality -- or even a majority -- of the American people.

Wanted: Dead or Alive or Eventually

Submitted by wojo on Fri, 2006-01-20 08:31.

I woke up to the strangest headline, "Breaking News| New Osama Threats Ignite Manhunt for His Capture":http://netscape.com. That banner may have rotated by now, but the article at CNN carries the headline "Bin Laden: World's Biggest Manhunt Heats Up":http://cnn.netscape.cnn.com/news/story.jsp?idq=/ff/story/7000/20060120/0525000001.htm&ewp=ewp_news_0106qaeda&floc=NW_1-T.

Of course, it was over 5 years ago Junior displayed his obvious affinity for all things cowboy, not just clearing brush and fishing with Heath Ledger, when "he said":http://archives.cnn.com/2001/US/09/17/bush.powell.terrorism/,

bq. I want justice, and there's an old poster out West… I recall, that said, 'Wanted, Dead or Alive.'

While in "Afghanistan in 2002":http://www.truthout.org/docs_04/101504W.shtml, Bush didn't exactly Cowboy-Up:

bq. I'll repeat what I said. I truly am not that concerned about him. I know he is on the run.

So not catching him wasn't a massive blunder due to our Iraq folly -- wasn't Bin Laden hiding with the weapons, somewhere around Tikrit? The truth is, we all know how a Posse gathers all the strong men in town, goes looking for the bad guys for a week, then takes over another unrelated town -- preferably one with black god -- and starts handing out building contracts. That's how they caught the bad guys in the Old West.

"Iraq, I wish I knew how to quit you"
